Dan Trejo was born in Los Angeles on May 16, 1944, in the neighborhood of Echo Park. He is the son of construction workers Dan Trejo and Alice Rivera. He is of Mexican ancestry. He is Robert Rodriguez’s second cousin; however, the two were ignorant of their relationship until the production of Desperado.
Trejo was imprisoned numerous times in his late teens and early twenties on drug possession and robbery charges, serving time in renowned institutions like ‘Folsom State Prison’ and ‘San Quentin State Prison.’ During his time in San Quentin, he poured his energies into boxing, where he won several titles in the prison’s lightweight and welterweight classes.
To battle his drug addiction, he enrolled in a 12-step program, which assisted him in overcoming his addiction. Before his acting career took off, Dan worked as a labour supervisor.
