Initially, she aspired to be a news reporter, but after being advised that she lacked the necessary physical qualities, she became a news footage editor for NBC and Fox. Her work took a devastating turn on September 11, 2001, when she was required to examine and edit endless hours of distressing footage of the 9/11 events in New York. The news station gave its editors treatment while editing one of the most brutal tapes in American history. Still, instead of going to therapy, Michelle tried stand-up comedy to help her cope with her highly taxing job.
Michelle Buteau began her comedic career in 2001, following the 9/11 events, and had her first television debut as a comic in 2005 on Comedy Central’s “Premium Blend.” She performed in the showcases for budding stand-up comedians at the last HBO U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, Colorado, in 2007.
